Butches on Beer

This blog is for anyone that desires a pint, schooner, tall pilsner glass of the most robust, full-bodied beers out there beyond the evil American trinity of weakly pilsner lager that is Miller/Coors/Budweiser. This blog is written by two of the most robust and full-bodied butches you’re ever going to meet based in the Los Angeles area—Raqui (yes, pronounced Rocky) and Mel. Do you see the connection between the two—butches and beer?

Beers and butches have been each others’ soulmates since the beginning of brewing back in a time when there was no words for love between women and during a time when we imagine that mates weren’t readily available for the masculine female. Women were some of the earliest brewers of beer back in the 6^th century in modern day Egypt. For all of you feminists that can’t seem to put down the white wine spritzers, check out Ninkasi, the ancient Sumerian matron goddess of beer. The hymn to Ninkasi is actually a beer recipe! How cool is that?

This blog aims to bring your attention to important beer news from around the world. We will also feature lots of reviews of both local beer events, microbrews and the breweries that brew them. We’ll have interviews with beer aficionados as well as other butches who love beer. Of course we’ll also have plenty of personal stories about all the beers of the world that we both have fallen in and out of love with over the course of our drinking lives.

We don’t portend to know everything about beer but we come pretty damn close! We just know what we like when we like what we’re drinking and beer is pretty easy to feel some passion for. 

So we look forward in sharing our beer drinking experiences with you. Be assured that we take all kinds of precautions when out at our favorite beer haunts–we don’t accept beers from strangers unless they’re the bartender and we never drink and drive without having inhaled sliders, tacos, french fries, etc. to soak up the hoppy goodness. It’s no fun if we’re getting infected with lesbian AIDS (ie: DUIs!).
